Iran Fires Seven Ballistic Missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain After US Strikes

Written by Layla Hassan, Middle East & North Africa Correspondent

📍 Kuwait City — Kuwait International Airport suspended all commercial flights Wednesday after an Iranian drone struck the airport’s passenger terminal, injuring multiple people and causing significant damage to the structure, according to Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior.

The attack targeted the main passenger building at one of the Gulf’s busiest transit hubs and marks a significant escalation in Iran’s retaliation campaign against US strikes on Iranian military assets earlier this week. It comes as the fragile US-Iran ceasefire entered its fifth day under severe strain.

US Central Command confirmed Wednesday that American forces had conducted self-defense strikes on an Iranian ground control station on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, destroying command infrastructure used to coordinate the drone and missile attacks. A CENTCOM statement said all Iranian missiles and drones launched in the latest wave “failed to hit their intended targets.”

A senior Iranian military officer told CBS News that renewed conflict with the United States appears “inevitable” absent a diplomatic breakthrough, citing continued American provocations in the region.

Kuwait’s civil aviation authority said the airport would remain closed until further notice. No casualties have been confirmed at the terminal as of late Wednesday afternoon. Kuwait’s foreign ministry summoned Iran’s charge d’affaires to protest the violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty.

Oil prices extended gains on the news, with Brent crude trading above $117 per barrel as markets reacted to the deepening disruption of Gulf maritime infrastructure. The Hormuz strait, through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil flows, remains a flashpoint as diplomatic efforts to restore the ceasefire have so far failed to produce a durable halt to hostilities.
