Israel Lebanon Strikes

JERUSALEM — Israeli air strikes killed at least three people in attacks on vehicles in southern Lebanon on Monday, the country’s National News Agency reported, as the Israeli military issued new forced displacement orders for residents across multiple villages in the south.

Israeli drone attacks targeted three vehicles on the Kafr Rumman-Jarmaq highway and the Jarmaq-Khardali road in the Nabatieh area early in the day, killing three people, according to the state-run news agency. Later, Israel ordered residents of ten villages to evacuate their homes ahead of expected strikes.

Citing what it described as Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire agreement, Israeli military spokesman Colonel Avichay Adraee said in a social media post that forces were “compelled to operate against it with force.” The affected villages — mostly in southern Lebanon — include Nabatieh al-Tahta, al-Louizeh, Sajd, Ain Qana, Harouf, Zibdin, Kfar Reman, Doueir, Adshit al-Shaqif and Maydun. Residents were ordered to move at least 1,000 metres away to open areas.

In the southern city of Tyre, an Israeli attack destroyed two homes in the Arzoun municipality, with rescue teams evacuating the injured. Additional strikes were reported in the towns of al-Mansouri, Siddiqin, Zibqin, Qlayaa, Yohmor al-Shaqif, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and al-Haniya.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory was a “non-negotiable” demand. “Israeli attacks have not stopped, and our dear southern villages are still suffering under a renewed occupation,” Aoun said in a statement commemorating the anniversary of Israel’s 2000 withdrawal from Lebanon.

More than 3,000 people have been killed since hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah resumed on March 2, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. Despite a United States-mediated ceasefire that took effect on April 17 and was later extended, Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon and Beirut have continued without pause. Israeli drones were reported flying at low altitude over central Beirut for a second consecutive day.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem reiterated his group’s opposition to direct talks with Israel and refused to discuss disarmament. Lebanon and Israel are preparing for a fourth round of US-brokered talks in early June, preceded by a meeting between military delegations at the Pentagon on May 29.
